Shibuya Toyu Building(Kewpie Head Office Building)
This is a reconstruction of the Kewpie Corporation Head Office on Mitake-dori, on the north side of Shibuya Station in Tokyo.
The core functions of the building are concentrated in a T shape, matching the T shape of the site. Columns are located inside the double-skin exterior, for large column-free office spaces with a high degree of freedom. Prestressed beams inside the ceiling make joists unnecessary and allow higher ceiling heights. A large eave was provided over the lower stories, expressing the stature and corporate identity of one of Japan’s leading companies. The design features various environmental technologies, including ventilated double skins on all floors and an earthquake-resistant structure that dispenses with columns on the east and west facades, allowing the maximum amount of natural lighting.
